Guest Skipper
I have a 1927 Buick Master Six. I have been slowly making improvements, but parts are hard to come by. I had this screeching/grinding noise coming from the firewall area and I thought maybe the driveline was rubbing on some metal. It didn't always make the noise however. One day there was a pop and the noise went away. Now I noticed the speedometer doesn't work and am sure the cable broke. Can someone tell me if you can have them made somewhere??? I have several other issues, so if there is a Buick buff who would like to talk about it, I'd love to...talkThanks,

Mark Shaw
The easiest fix is to weld or braise the old ends to a new speedometer cable.
DavidMc
I have done this a few times, new cable is readily available from instrument repairers. Attaching the ends is simple, the ones I repaired were all originally soft soldered on so a large soldering iron or propone burner will do the job. One of the easiest repairs you will make but you need to route that cable so that it does not have sharp bends to avoid a repeat failure.
critterpainter
The most probable reason that the cable broke is that the speedo itself NEEDS to be serviced. The factory grease will be rock hard by now. Unfortunatly those speedometer housings are pot metal and by now 90% of them are swollen from corrosion and not repairable.
