Guest trdatisola
I want to check the compression of my 1929 Pontiac engine prior to my attenp to start it for my first time. What numbers should I be hoping for? Also I have a brake Question. All brake schematics I have found show the Parking brake handle activating the 4 wheel braking sysyem. My car is different. The handle activates a brake band around a drum attached to the drive shaft. Any one else have that arrangement?
Guest
Atmospheric pressure is 14.7. Compression ratio is 5.6 to 1. So under ideal conditions compression should be 14.7x5.6 = 82.32. The main thing is that there should be no more than 10% difference from highest to lowest.According to the parts manual both transmission brake and 4 wheel emergency brakes were used on Series 6-29, Series 6-29A and Series 6-30B. It does not mention when one stopped and when the other started. Perhaps they were both available because not having a separate system was illegal in many places.Yours means you have two systems which is the safest. Thanks for the compression info.I'm a novice but thanks to people like you who are willing to share your expertise I,m also learning.
