1917 Stude 6 Transmission

Recommended Posts

I am Looking for a transmission for my 17 Studebaker Six. Complete or parts. I would prefer a late unit with 3.7 gears but will consider any unit with a good case. Thank You.

The 1917 Series 18 was the last year for the transmission to be mounted with the rear end. The 1918 cars had it mounted behind the engine. I am sure you know this but maybe some not familiar with Studebaker cars of this era may not.

Yes Sir, that is correct. 1913 through 1917 were transaxle cars. Mine has been repaired in the past and figured it would be a good idea to have a spare.

This is a pre 1916 transaxle as it does not have the mounting points for the brake/hand brake shafts on the gearbox. It will fit but the brake equalisor set up is different so it would not be suitable for a 1916/1917 (Series 17 & 18) vehicle.

Thank You Gentlemen.  I need to climb under mine now and get the numbers.  I will be in touch.

Meanwhile the search continues.  As I enjoy driving the Ole Buggy and hope to bring it to South Bend in 2017 to celebrate its Centenary.
