Rusty_OToole
I don't think there is any treatment for the universal joints. Rubber deteriorates with age and there is nothing that can be done about it.There was some discussion of these joints a few months ago. I don't remember all the details but I believe replacements are available from industrial type sources like Grainger.
viv w
Hi, Its a 4cyl model, remove driveshaft from rubber coupler, take shifter off trans and remove engine from the front. Best to remove manifold/carb and distributor, so that they don't get damaged.. When removing trans from engine, first remove top inspection cover and disconnect throw out bearing return spring from inside bellhousing. I replaced rubber couplings by making two steel flanges to bolt onto trans and axle spiders and fitted a more conventional driveshaft.RegardsViv.
