Painting Wood spoke wheels

After appropriate sanding, I recommend application of a coat of Kwik-Poly (formerly called RSP). This is a very low viscosity epoxy that soaks into the cells of the wood. It seals and protects the wood. It has a very fast set up time so will require mixing small batches and working it on in small sections. Then more sanding and then apply a suitable sanding primer then the top coat of you choice. I would use acrylic enamal with harderner for flexibility and excellent gloss coating.
