Guest Posted April 19, 2002 Posted April 19, 2002 Can any one tell me aprox. where I need to locate the rear antennaon my 1960 impala.
Guest Posted April 19, 2002 Posted April 19, 2002 When the cars were new it seems to me that I saw them with the antennaes on either the right front fender or the right rear fender. If rear mounted the antenna angled backward. J.C. Whitney even used to sell a kit to mount a second, dummmy, matching antenna on the left rear fender.
Guest Posted April 19, 2002 Posted April 19, 2002 Thanks Terry. I know, the rear antenna make the car look more like a classic. The problem is I can't find how far up from the rear fin and how close to the trunk lid they go. I received a spec. book from Chevy and the only spec. missing is the placement. Anybody have any mesurments?
randjflo60 Posted April 19, 2002 Posted April 19, 2002 Larry C.
Mine is a 4 door hartop but I think the locations are the same for all models.
These measurements are from the front of the antenna base measuring straight across from the front edge of the trunk, they are 2 inches back and 1 1/4 inch out from the trunk edge.
I hope this helps and good luck
Dave@Moon Posted April 20, 2002 Posted April 20, 2002 I've never seen one for this particular car, but if you have an NOS antenna kit for the car it almost always will have a template inside which matches up to the body lines and marks the spot for drilling. If you check around you may be able to find/use one of these rather that trying to measure distances on curved surfaces, which is real tough to do consistantly.
Guest Posted April 20, 2002 Posted April 20, 2002 Thanks for the help randjflo60. Just to let you know I saw your web site this past week and took a copy of your photo to my paint shop. After seeing your pictures he was off from your dimensions by less than an inch.
Thanks again, By the way my Impala is a 4 dr. hardtop with a 283, horizon blue and ermine white. Thanks again Larry.
randjflo60 Posted April 21, 2002 Posted April 21, 2002 Larry C.
Thanx for signing my guest book. It is really great to see these hartops being restored. I know of about 5 others that are being restored too.
Good luck
