rocky5517
Does anyone have the exact length of the dipstick, from the bottom to the first notch? Book says she takes 5 qts but 4 1/2 brings me up to "full"
Seafoam65
The most likely cause of this is an oil pan that is dented in on the bottom, causingthe same amount of oil to read higher on the stick. We see this in my car repair shop all the time .....usually about a half quart error.

68RIVGS
The part number is stamped on the dip stick, (...or 'rod - adapter, crankcase oil gauge'), as they refer to it in the parts book. For '67-'68 430 engine, the part number is 1373406 if that helps? Lapham3
Sometimes an incorrect dipstick gets in there so that part number is good to have. Not to scare or concern you, but if nothing else solves your question, I've pulled down engines that easily had enough oil pan sludge to displace 1/2 quart. Hope not the case for you-good luck.
