Hydraulic bench seat question

I find my 1950 power seat will move forward on it's own during a hard stop. The only thing keeping it in the fully back position is the spring that counters the hydraulic extend function. The seat positioning works and I believe the system is fully bled. This can't be normal can it????? Or do I have a bad valve somewhere that should be "Locking" the position hydraulically?

TIA

Phil

Phil,

The seat operating mechanism has a built in ratcheting feature that is supposed to prevent the seat from moving forward during an emergency stop. You could check your mechanism to verify that it is assembled correctly and that the ratchet teeth are not damaged. From the picture of the mechanism in my parts book, it appears that the ratchet is part of the lever arm that the cylinder rod attaches to at the front of the seat mechanism frame. Hope this helps.
