Anzac Buick64
Hi GuysWell my car is at the auto trim shop as we approach the final stages. On the old seat it is clear that there was originally a robe rail or grab rail fitted to the back of the front seat for the rear seat passengers to use. The cord it self is reproducible or able to be purcahsed from the likes of Le Baron Bonney but I am looking for a source of the maroon covers that go over the end of the rail. Does anyone have or know of where I might get one from ?. Or does any one have a spare that I could purchase to copy from? I have varoius photos of the covering but am unsure which is correct for the 1939 special. ThanksAndrew
39BuickEight
One of my cars had maroon ones (like in the first couple of photos) and one had chromed ones (pitted badly, obviously very old). I've wondered which were correct, or both? I was going to use the maroon ones since they are in much better condition. Terry Stock
Our '39 is Petone, New Zealand, assembled. First time I've looked closely at the fittings. They are green. The same colour as the leather seats. But the seats have apparently been painted somewhere along the line. Chip the paint and there's glorious maroon underneath. Barney Eaton
The 1939 color brochure is of little help. You cannot see the ends clearly in any of the pictures, except on Limited sedans, and they are completely different. One interesting note, the brochure does not show any strap on the back of the seat on 2 dr cars (split seat back) of course, we all know these brochures are not always completely accurate. Also the seat platform of your car looks much different than my 39 Century coupe, mine does not have that step/ledge at the rear. Could be the difference between US built and Export cars. 1937-44
I don't own a 1939, but thought I would throw this out there. The Master Body Parts Book lists a cord, robe for a 1939-40 model 48 & 48A which I believe is a two door. Group 11.898 part number 4164662. It actually lists the same cord for some models up till 1948. Carl

They will have split fold down seats like the model 46 coupes
