Guest Posted January 14, 2002 Posted January 14, 2002 Try the AACA Library & Research Center.<P>A member of AACA, now deceased, by the name of Murrell Smith of Baltimore, MD owned a Great Smith of about that era. I do not know the current whereabouts of the car, but there is a chance that some of his literature may be in the LRC since he was a supporter of the library from its inception.<P>Since you are in the same part of the country where Murrell lived, by any chance do you now have Murrell's car?<P>hvs
Guest Posted January 15, 2002 Posted January 15, 2002 This is Murrell Smith's Great Smith. I bought it from his son about 3 years ago and he did not have a manual for it. Also, the car was not in running condition. Harrah’s restored the car prior to Murrell owning it.<P>Thank you for you advice on checking the AACA Library & Research Center. I believe that museum contains the reference materials that were collected by the Harrah organization.
Guest Posted January 16, 2002 Posted January 16, 2002 Now that I know it is the Murrell Smith car, I will give you a little background on the car. <P>I can't tell you anything about the lubricating system on THAT car, but back in 1988 we said that it had a built in mosquito control system, because when it drove off the field at the Grand National in Midland, Michigan it trailed a cloud of blue oil smoke so dense you could hardly see through it. I understand there were no mosquitos in the area for the rest of the summer. <P>I tell you this because if it isn't running it may be for more reasons than long time sitting. I would be VERY concerned about the condition of that engine and not assume that everything is OK inside even if you do get it running. ~ hvs<P>Victor ~ Don't let the Cheyenne address confuse you.
