The spare, when the cast aluminum hubcaps were ordered, has the bolt on cover but not the center cap. Tom Mooney

The spare did not come with a turbine wheel cover already installed however, the rim was pre-drilled from the factory to accomodate the cover. As far as I know, all rims were pre-drilled for this option. I have had several '64's over the years, one of them had the turbine wheel cover option. The others had the standard full wheel covers but the rims were all pre-drilled.
RivNut
I concur with what Pat says. As a matter of fact, I think that all Buick 5 on 5 bolt circle rims came stamped with the holes used for the bolt on cast covers. One thing that some folks are not aware of is that the wheels came in either 5.5" width rims or 6" width rims depending on tire size. 5.5" for the 7.10 x 15 tire, and 6" for the 7.60 x 15 tire. Not that big or a deal but the studs on the back of the cast covers are different lengths depending on wheel width. Short studded covers won't bolt on a wide rim. Long bolt covers on narrow rims stick out too far on the back side of the wheel. The problem with replacing studs is that the studs are steel and the covers are aluminum. Over time they've bonded together and are hard to separate.Ed
lrlforfun
OK Pat, Tom and ED: I'm wondering if all 1965 GM's had the 2-key system. I believe they switched the key in 67. Also, I wonder what the most common rim width was on the 63 and 64, the 5 1/2" or the 6". Great info. Anybody else know about the spare issue? Thanks, Mitch

Thanks, MitchI don't remember if my 65 had a 1 or 2 key system but I believe it was just 1. Darwin Falk has run a series of articles in past Riviews breaking down colors and options on most years of the Riviera. The article tells you what percentage of cars came with each option. The wider tire and wheel was not a popular option so my guess is the 5 1/2 was the most popular size.
RivNut
Tom is right on about the spare issue. To make it simpler. The spare was a full sized with a matching tire that was expected to be used in the tire rotation. On the cars ordered with the optional cast wheel covers; you got five matching tires, five matching wheels, five matching cast covers, and four stainless spinners. Take off the four spinners, lay them aside. Remove each of the four wheels on the car and pull the spare from the trunk. Rotate and put the tires back on the car/in the trunk. Pick up the spinners and put them back on the corner from which they came. Here's an FYI for everyone. If the tire jockey cracked the center cap in the spinner, which most of them did with a solid blow to the center of the knock off, you have replacements available that are not cracked. Find the non-optional wheel cover and take the center from it; they're the same centers. Easy enough to swap out. In searching salvage yards for wheels, I've come across quite a few 5-1/2" wheels, but hardly any 6" wheels. I'm positive about the wheel sizes for '63 but don't have any information about wheel sizes for '64. I'm leaving '65 and later out of this because of the smaller center hole for which I have no use.The owner's manual for the car will tell you how many keys came with the car. Seafoam65
1965 models had two keys, one that fit the doors and ignition and another for the trunk and glove box.
