Guest Posted November 15, 2001 Posted November 15, 2001 Can anyone give me a detailed description of what color the different parts of a 1928 Chevrolet engine should be painted? I understand the block and head are a green-gray, but I am not sure what color the valve cover, oil pan or air cleaner should be painted. Could anyone answer this, or could someone suggest a place to get this information. THANKS!!
Rick Hoover Posted November 15, 2001 Posted November 15, 2001 Murray,
I'll do my best here, as it has been awhile since I had my hands on one.
The valve cover is black, as is the fan and hub pulley, the oil filter, crankcase vent/ breather and the generator and starter.
Now, the ones I'm not 100% certain about are the oil pan and air cleaner. I thought they were both painted green. However, I've been told that they painted the oil pans black in '28 and I have seen this at shows as I have also seen black painted air cleaners, but I'm not convinced on this. I say the air cleaner is green.
I would contact our AACA Library and ask Kim Miller to see what info she may have on this. There also was a fellow by the name of Gary Wallace who sold parts for these 4 cylinder Chevrolets. I do not have any info on him at this time, however if I locate it I will post it on here for you.
I hope this helped some ~~ Rick
