Nice work Ed! I only have the one model of a Riv here is a pic.I know its not Riviera, Not even close, but here are some pics of a model I have been working on Recently. That looks like the same kit I started with stock 65. The shifter is ridiculously out of scale, but I think if you cut off the ball part it would look really close to the factory shifter. AlfredThere's a spread on the ROA's website that shows probably every Riviera model made. One of them is a TKM cast resin model of an '83 Riviera convertible. I have seen TKM models in the past, they were quite crude and relied a lot on the builders skill. The grind them down and refinish them and then get them registered to their cars, as long as the number isn't taken. Might be something to try?! In Ohio there is no yearly registration fee for Vintage cars registered as historical. It is $35 to sign up and get your tags and they are good for 88 years ?!?!? You then can register the model year tags to your vehicle and run them on the car while keeping your actual Historical tags in the trunk. As you can imagine it causes confusion in the law enforcement community. I got asked by a local Policeman, while I was getting gas, where I got my plates. And who said I could put them on my car! I explained these rules to him, he ran my plate number and it came back no record! He then told me he had done the same thing the day before, to a different car, and got "no Record" then too! Recently I was doing some 'housekeeping' and came across a couple 'newsletters' that I created a number of years ago for an on-line model car discussion group on Yahoo groups (ModelCarsUnlimited MCU). My son got into building models, and of course, I (ahem) supported the hobby by also getting involved. Although I built a number of different models, since I owned a '64 1:1 scale model, I focused on the Riviera. The newsletter didn't last too long... Anyway, for what it's worth, a couple BROoM Sweeps, and a couple 1:24 builds... The blue model was handpainted sometime in/around 1984 when AMT re-released the '65. Apparently this company made this toy in 1968, along with several other models of popular "muscle cars" from that year. They are all painted in various metallic paint colors. I have seen several of these toy cars with clear plastic "garages" that must have been included with the cars. As noted in the boxart newsletter posted above, the '64 (and '63) 1:24 AMT plastic models were only issued as one-year annuals in 63 and 64, so if you do find them on eBay, they're rare and likely expensive if complete and still in the box. The '65 has been re-issued a number of times over the years so it's relatively easy to find. Your best bet on doing a stock/custom 63/64 might be to try to find one that's already been built, strip it down and and redo it to your liking. For what it's worth, I agree that the 1:18 scale Highway 61 die cast '64s is very well done. Good luck. RivNut Posted December 31, 2019 Author Share Posted December 31, 2019 I agree with Mike on the Hiway 61 die cast 64 Rivieras. There are many small items that are not noticable in pictures. The vent windows are functional. The driveshaft turns when the rear wheels turns. The seats are not rigid plastic. The antenna goes up and down. I have four of them. The one that I posted in the first post of this thread, a black one with white interior, a coral mist with black interior , and one that I've been customizing. The suspension is so accurate that you can dissemble it an take a pair of wire cutters and cut the coil springs to lower it - which I did. It also comes with either a single four barrel engine or the Super Wildcat engine. A few years ago, I was working with the Hiway 61 folks on the differences between the 64 and a 63. After sending them a bunch of pictures, they started to produce it but stopped when they could not get enough preorders from their dealers to guarantee a profit. I sold a few others I had years ago, got a good trade out of them. I suspect the 65 is a modified 63-64 mold, so the 64 will probably never see the light of day again. I did find some nice resin castings a while back, but didn't jump on them. I'm trying to avoid getting back into the hobby. It's addictive! I'm kinda disappointed by how expensive the diecast got. The '65 and '69 have been reissued a few times, but none of the others have been. A '66 GS version was released as a kit and promo many years after the original '66 came out. I put it together and painted to match the first Riviera to be unveiled in Hutchinson, KS - spruce green with silver leather. Here are the Philco made radio model cars from '64-'68 that I know of: Chrysler Turbine Car '64-'68 Thunderbird hardtop '64 XL '64 Grand Prix '66-'67 Mustang fastback '65 Dynamic 88 '65 Wildcat '66 Impala SS '66 Continental '64, '66 and '67 Riviera (don't know about '65) '67 Ambassador Generally speaking, only the FoMoCo radios had the Philco name on the On/Off switch.
