37 dodge D 5

Say I am new to the old coup world and need a little help. I want to put an old school dodge motor in this dodge, like a 340 small block or an rb block and wondering what's a good choice as what will clear the original steering column, or do I need to replace it and do I need to cut away the fire wall to fit an automatic tranny. It appears that there is room for a big block dodge but I don't want any surprises. If anybody has done one of these cars I would greatly appreciate it

thanks

rt

As mentioned a rodding site would be better, but since the car was designed with a straight 6, any V type engine you decide to install will probably require changing the steering column and or box. I know there is no room in my 36 Chrysler for anything but a straight engine with the steering box and column location.
