Linus Tremaine
All,I went on a hike in the desert recently and ran across an old engine. I did not have my camera with me, but my friend did. Hopefully I can get a picture of this thing to help identify it. For now, lets guess! The engine was a six cylinder, fairly large. It was probably late teens or twenties. Many of the castings had an "S" cast into them with a circle around it. Here is the interesting part-There was a seventh spark plug mounted horizontally on the rear passenger side of the head. We debated if it was a sending unit of some kind but it had a porcelain core with a sold wire inside. The porcelain had been broken off, so it was not "obviously" a spark plug shape anymore. Has anyone seen an engine like this before?
