Guest barrhavencobra
I recently purchased a 1947 and am seeking your advice on the most comprehensive book or books that you know of or have used that will assist me in getting the car back on the road. I have purchased the Ford-Mercury 1942-1948 Shop Manual .. Service Handbook, but was wondering if there is another or others that are even more comprehensive?Thank you in advance,Jim
19tom40
It depends upon what you want to do with the car.To restore it as it left the factory you need these books. The Early Ford V-8 Club's 1941-1948 book is crammed with information about the car and what was on it when it left the factory. Available from http://www.fordv8foundation.org/restobooks.html and https://www.earlyfordv8.org/store-products.cfm?id=2The Chassis part catalog. The Green Book (1928-1948 Chassis Parts and Accessories Catalog) is readily available in reprint. Available from most vendors of Ford reproduction partsThe 1944-1952 Ford Body Parts Catalog Available from most vendorsReprints of the Ford Shop NotesTo just do mechanical repairs so you can drive it, I would add a Motors manual. In any case. I would join the Early Ford V-8 Club and a Regional Group to have people who are knowledgeable about the cars to talk to, find reliable mechanics in your area and for general companionship.
