Guest Hal Davis (MODEL A HAL)
How do the starter motor brushes attach to the field coils? Mine appear to be all one assembly. Do they solder? If so, do I need to take any special precautions to unsolder the old ones and resolder the new ones?
Rick Hoover
Hi Hal, Yes, those insulated brush leads are soldered on down by the field coils. Just use a electric solder gun to unsolder them. Just don't over heat the insulator. I also recommend you use rosin and not a acid core solder when installing the new brush leads. <BR>Good Luck! Guest Hal Davis (MODEL A HAL)
Thanks Rick. The book said to replace them if there was less than 1/4" showing outside of the brush holder. These things aren't much longer than 1/4" total! I believe we got all the good out of this set.
