Franklin25
Any good references on the subject of preparing aluminum surfaces for lacquer paint?
Guest Hal Davis (MODEL A HAL)
Where are you, Rick? Correct me if I'm wrong.
If I'm not mistaken, Martin Seniour Trio Prime, a self etching primer, can be applied over aluminum.
Rick Hoover
Hal, you're correct in recommending the Trio prime self-etching primer. However Franklin, I would recommend washing the bare aluminum panels with Martin Seniour's Twin-Etch cleaner and conditioner #6879 first to wash out any impurities. Then, apply the recommended coatings of Trio-Prime #8847 reduced with #8848 reducer. If you're using Dupont products, first clean with their #225S Aluminum Cleaner, then apply #226S Aluminum Conversion Coating. Follow then with Dupont Variprime self-etching primer. Some of these systems may have been changed or updated, so it best to check with you're local auto paint supplier in the brand of your choosing to have any upgraded changes made. However, after the self-etching primer has been applied, you then can continue with the regular primer system of your choice. Good Luck.
Rick
