The Blitzen BenzOne of the most famous early race cars.

The top picture shows some other interesting history that I learned just this week. The Mack truck is parked in front of the International Motor Co., probably in New York or Plainfield, NJ. The Mack Brothers Motor Car Co. got into financial trouble in 1911, merged with the U.S. operation of Swiss-owned Saurer Motor Company to form International Motor Co. The official company name didn't get changed to Mack Truck Co. until 1922. I wonder why the Blitzen Benz was at the Mack truck factory. Maybe the Saurer headquarters in Switzerland was involved in shipping the car over. Saurer continued to make trucks in Europe for a long time, eventually sold off the truck operations that became MAN, Berna, and others.

Here's the link to the Wikipedia article on Saurer: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saurer
