garyd,
It is a great engine set up for meeting and making many new friends at gas stations! I know, as with my 454, I have made many friends there in those places!
Seriously, it is a well proven engine, but the stock carburation of those years is it's weak point and down fall. As to which transmission is another story.
Rick

Depending on what you want to do with the engine, check the deck height. BB Chevys were made with two deck heights, one being for automotive use and one for trucks, buses, (possibly) motorhomes, etc.
This obviously causes the heads to sit higher and farther apart, and standard intakes and accessory brackets will not fit. The manifold can be swapped with either a special manifold for this purpose or spacers...
Again, this depends on what you're doing with it...
Derek

------------------
1968 "Canadian" Pontiac Beaumont
1988 Buick LeSabre T-Type
If you want the ULTIMATE engine for a motor home try a 500 inch Cad! They have many followers that report five mile per gallon increase in fuel economy with MORE power. I only know of one site http://www.cad500parts.com/ but I am sure there are others. They have kits to put them in Chevy Trucks and just about every thing else. So it would bolt right in a motorhme that had a BB Chevy in it.
------------------
buickfam@aol.com
Life long Buick Fan.
1965 Skylark H/T
1965 Gran Sport Convertible
1948 Chevy Pickup with 401 Buick.
