Guest Posted July 12, 2000 Posted July 12, 2000 How can I find out if a given 1966 SS Nova is a LS79? Where can I find a resource on this topic? Email me: jfrancis@jagunet.com
Rick Hoover Posted July 12, 2000 Posted July 12, 2000 I'm not that great on some of these modern vehicle questions, so what's a LS79? I know and remember well the 350hp 327cu.in. engines that you could get in the Chevy II if that's what you're talking about. They were Z coded engines. What's your engine and VIN number?
If this is what you mean, come back on and we'll help the best we can here.
We are not allowed to e-mail here, according to our one moderater.
Rick
novaman Posted July 20, 2000 Posted July 20, 2000 I don't know of LS79 being an option. It sounds like one of the codes GM gave to some of the V8 engines. In 1966, if you check your serial number on the door post, look at the 2nd and 3rd numbers if they read 17, your car should be a SS 6cyl. If they read 18, it should be a SS V8. If reads neither, it's not a SS.
ronbarn Posted July 20, 2000 Posted July 20, 2000 A quick explanation re Ricks comment about email replies for those of you that are new here. I discourage email replies as a response in that it deprives the rest of us of the answer. We all want to learn on this DF. I can't help JeffFrancisInBaltoMd at this time, but with the educated responses from others will learn. When you get to the point of working a deal or trading some personal info, email is fine. Until then let us all have the benefit of your questions and experience and knowledge - thanx.
