Guest Posted July 10, 2000 Posted July 10, 2000 I have a 1935 Buick Model 41 with a bad carb.
Can I take the top off my EE-1 and place it on the body of a stromberg 97? Everything looks good but the choke lever on the 97 is on the wrong side. Both have the three bolt pattern on the base. I have had the EE-1 "rebuilt" twice and the surge problem is still there. Can't find another EE-1 but can find a 97. Some say a 97 will not be a good choice because of the hp difference but I never drive fast enough to use all my 97hp in my Buick. The 97 comes from a ford flathead usually. Any ideas????
------------------
Guest Posted July 18, 2000 Posted July 18, 2000 If you have a 97 to swap onto the engine, you could always give it a try. Just watch that the throttle plates don't hang up on the intake and jam open! (Did that once with a Rochester B in place of a Carter W-1 that "looked like it'll fit". I'm surprised that I didn't throw a rod .)
The 97 won't be jetted right for the application, but if you can get it semi-driveable, it might confirm that the surge problem you mentioned is (or isn't) the EE-1.
