Guest Posted June 10, 2000 Posted June 10, 2000 I want to put a chevy 250 in my 1950 chevy. The car currently has a 215 in it, and I was wondering if I could do a clean swap. Will the 250 fit right onto my tranny?
Guest Posted June 10, 2000 Posted June 10, 2000 Only inline sixes made up till '59 will bolt in your car, well maybe to '61. The "new" motor came out in 1962, so that should be right. I have a 1948 Pickup that I put a 1959 235 in it without a hitch.
Guest Posted June 14, 2000 Posted June 14, 2000 I had a 1950 5-window chevy p/u with a 1958 215 ci inline 6. It worked fine and bolted right to the trans. This is a much better engine than the older chevy stovebolts. It had bearing inserts instead of the pain-in-the-$#%& babbitted bearings. You can probably find one of these engines quite easily at a reasonable price. LOL...
Guest Posted June 14, 2000 Posted June 14, 2000 Correction: It was a 235 ci 6 cyl. Chevy had a 216 ci (not 215 ci) only up to '53.
Guest Posted July 6, 2000 Posted July 6, 2000 A 235ci 6cyl will go into your chevy easier than a 250. The 235 has front motor mounts like the 216, but the 250 has side mounts. 250's are more widely available and therby less expensive to buy and rebuild. Chassis Engineering has side motor mounts to put a 1962 and up 6cyl into a 41-48 Chevy. You might call them and ask about 49-53 mounts. Don't let the V-8 guys talk you out of a 6!
Good luck, craign
