Ron Green Posted June 7, 2000 Posted June 7, 2000 I have a 55 Pontiac and was wondering what is the correct color of the drive shaft. It is currently black and Eastwood tells me it should be black. It is hard to believe the factory would take the time and money to paint this. I have it out to replace the front seal and want to redo it while it is out. Thanks! RG
Rick Hoover Posted June 7, 2000 Posted June 7, 2000 Ron,
I have only ever worked on one '55 Pontiac and I can not say I paid much mind to the shaft as it was for mechanical repairs only. I know '55 Chevrolet used bare steel shafts, but I'm incline to think that Pontiacs' were painted chassis / semi-gloss black with bare universal joints as most other GM cars of that era. I can't bet any money on this, but that is what I would do if I had to call it. If you would like, I can give you a local fellows' name here in Hershey that could tell you what his is on his '55 Starchief.
Rick
Ron Green Posted June 7, 2000 Author Posted June 7, 2000 Thanks for the info. I have talked to some other people and all agree it is black. I know a guy from the Hershey area that has one, (Ken George) who lives about a 1/2 mile from me. I live in Camp Hill. I am getting my car ready for the Grand National and just wanted to be sure. Thanks
Rick Hoover Posted June 7, 2000 Posted June 7, 2000 Good deal. Ken is a good friend of mine. He is knowledged and has a excellent vehicle for a guide. Good luck in Montoursville.
Rick
