Engine surge

Guest

Recommended Posts

I have a 1935 Buick Model 41 with a Stromberg EE-1 carb. On level ground, contant gas the engine will surge slightly, kind of jerking but no back fire. When it is cold it does not do it but as soon as I get to operating temp it starts to surge. Drives me crazy AND I don't want to get too far from home. Any ideas what to try. My friend think maybe the carb but we are not sure. Somebody PLEASE give me some ideas.
------------------
First check for a vacuum leak. Did you put a vac. gauge on the engine? If this checks out, then check your distributor advance springs. If the engine is cold, the distributor will mechanically advance due to the higher rpm of the motor. When the engine is at operating temperature, this over advance will become pronounced. A single weakened spring or two will allow the distributor to advance well before it should.
