Bob Zetnick
I'm putting my wheels back on the car. The front wheels axles have castellated nuts w/ cotter pins...the rear wheels have just regular nuts, but do have a hole in the axle for a cotter pin. In the 40+ years I've had and driven the car the rear wheels have always had these non-castellated nuts and I can't remember cotter pins back there. I am tightening those nuts, but do not want to over tighten...the cotter pin holes in the axle are not visible yet. I have looked online and I have seen another '29 DA and a '29 Chrysler w/ castellated nuts w/ cotter pins on the rear wheels. My question is can I keep the non-castellated nuts w/o cotter pins and if so, how much should I tighten?
