Piston Oil Rings

After the fantastic help I got here for my hydramatic problem I am hoping for some help on fitting piston oil control rings....
The central ridged oil ring, which sit between two flat rings, has little green and red plastic inserts in the troughed ends. I am wondering if they should be removed as I am having trouble compressing the rings for installation. Unfortunatly the old pistons are themselves replacment and differ from the new ones....
Can anyone advise?????????
Regards
CrestaMan

I have a hard time imagining you'd want anything made out of plastic so close to the combustion process. They are probably shipping material of some kind.
Cheers, 3MP

Crestaman,
DO NOT TAKE THEM OUT!
They are there so you can't overlap the ring during compression. Otherwise, you could bind the ring, or even break one. "Sealed Power" brand ring set I take it.
Rick
