37 Pontiac SilverStreak
team,im trying to figure this drive shaft section out.. This post connects the pumpkin (differential) to the centre too the car... The part that's confusing is the spindal, that mounts to the frame... Does the centre bolt come out and the bearing part slide off? The task; clean re-grease and paint the section in picture..thanks
62 driver
Yes, take the center bolt out and it should come apart. Might be tight but use a rubber mallet or block of wood. Mark all parts so you may align them back up again.
dictator27
That part is called the driveshaft centre support bearing. As 62 driver said, mark everything so they can be reassembled exactly as they were. Not doing this can result in a difficult to find vibration because the driveshaft is dynamically balanced as a unit.Terry
37 Pontiac SilverStreak
Thanks for the tips, I will attempt, mark and renew the section if i can.. I may just take it to a shop, I'm not that car savvy ..
