Picture attached. There are pieces of steel plate aprox. 3/8in thick and six in. sq. It is trimmed with a cutting torch. Attached to side frame in the engine well, just to the rear of front cross member. I can not find any structural damage or repair that would require this. Is it possible this is factory installed for some reason?

Vern, this was a common practice when guys installed a different engine. The "plates" served as a platform for the engine mounts. You may have to remove them as they might be in the way of the V12 exhaust manifolds.

I would think as far forward as these are it would have to be an engine that had front motor mounts like the tri-five Chevys or some of the later 250 and 290 six cylinder Chevys. The 290 was a truck motor with tons of grunt that would move this car along.
