nvonada
Time for new tires for my Champion. Currently the car has 16x6" tires. The book says the standard size is 16x5.5". 16x6" was an option. Coker has both. Any opinions about which I should go with? Nathan
Gary_Ash
It should steer easier with the 5.50-16 bias ply tires. They look skinny by today's standards but it's enough for the car. The Coker site shows the same price for 5.50 or 6.00. A radial tire option is P215-85/R16LT. This is a light truck tire, commonly available, could be a lot cheaper. Ford Stoecker and others have used them on 4.5" wide rims.
nvonada
Gary,I am leaning that way myself. With the brakes and engine in this car I just don't see what the larger tire gets me. And going back to stock size will probably fix the small error in my speedometer. The truck tire is a hell of a lot cheaper but I am a sucker for wide whitewalls.Nathan
studeq
Two examples below (both mine). Yes, the wide whites do set them off. You did not state the body style of our car. If it happens to be a coupe and you opt for the 600 X 16 the spare will not fit in the well.
nvonada
4 Coker 5.5x16 wide whitewall radials are being installed right now. Can't wait to see if the car handles better.

nvonada
Before (30 year old Lester tires):After: So far the car seems to drive nice and it does not follow grooves in the pavement nearly so much as it used to.
Guest stuben
I prefer the 30 year old ones where the white walls go further out,I was able to aquire some New vintage tires today, I will post later size and photos, the white walls still dont go out as far as your old ones.
