Only then did I learn that the very slight leak is actually in the center section of the exhaust manifold. He probably has one, and in my experience, you can buy all three sections of a good used one from him cheaper than you can buy just a reproduction center section elsewhere. Bill Stoneberg Posted May 1, 2020 Share Posted May 1, 2020 We went out on a drive Tuesday and it was a beautiful day. Had the windows open and it felt great. We took the short loop (about 60 miles) that we drive a lot. It gets you out in the ranch areas and away from all the traffic of out small town. After we got back in town we stopped about a mile from home to get Nachos for lunch. I stopped the car while running inside to get the food and when I came back the starter would not work. Paul White Posted May 3, 2020 Share Posted May 3, 2020 Hi all, my wife and I are thinking of moving out of suburbia to a small acreage before house and land prices around where we currently live become as unaffordable as house prices 60 miles to the south in Sydney. Anyway, this resulted in a most enjoyable 60 mile round trip passing through lovely rural landscapes on a sunny and crisp fall day. The Buick ran superbly and seems to love the 98 octane fuel that I have been using since the price has almost halved since this time last year, a gallon here costing about $2.50 US. Matt Harwood Posted May 3, 2020 Share Posted May 3, 2020 The City of Akron organized a driving cruise past all the hospitals this afternoon, so we let our friends know about it and invited them to drive down with us. The drive to the starting point was about 30 minutes of easy cruising. The Akron police and fire departments were organizing it and technically, you were supposed to stay in your cars. Of course, nobody did and a vast majority of people acted like it was any other car show. People kept coming up to talk to me and I kept backing away and they would keep following me. Bleh. The only good thing to come out of this Coronavirus thing is that I am 100% done with shaking hands now and forever, something I've been trying to find a way to accomplish all my adult life. But I digress. We had a pretty diverse group running with us, including Melanie in her '56 Chrysler wagon, me in the Limited, a 1916 Cadillac, a 1932 Packard, a 1947 Cadillac convertible, a 1963 Ford pickup (with its original owner at the helm!), a1970 Mercedes 280SL, and a 1993 Mazda Miata with awesome Ronal Bear wheels that I love. We cruised down and met up with the rest of the cruisers in the parking lot. It was actually a pretty decent turn out of cars, although a vast majority of them were just boring late-models. I counted 26 new Dodge Challengers, roughly 20% of which were SubLime Green. So unique, just like everyone else. LOL. Our cars rolling in caused a bit of a stir and as usual (this is just an observation) everyone ignored most of the other cars and really lit up for the pre-war stuff. It was hard to keep people away so I just opened the hood and went up on the bridge to take photos instead. This reinforces my point that a vast majority of the hobby doesn't understand pre-war cars and because of that, they don't know it's even an option. Driving them and showing people that they can be used as real cars and not static art or finicky time bombs is critical to saving the hobby. They're just cars, make sure people understand that fact. At about 1:00, the police and fire teams led us out of the parking lot and through the city of Akron, motoring us through the parking lots of a half-dozen hospitals where a combination of workers and patients were either outside or at the windows to watch. It was really a good feeling to see everyone waving and having fun for a change. Hopefully it brightened a few peoples' day. Both our cars performed perfectly, which makes me happy. It ended up being a rolling traffic jam that was even worse than a parade, a real torture test. Melanie's car with an automatic transmission doesn't care, but I really had to work to make sure I didn't trash the Limited's clutch. I would let traffic ahead of me get 50 or 100 feet ahead before I'd start rolling, but, as you'd expect, people would dive into those openings, either civilians trying to use the same roads or some of the hot shots with their loud late-models showing off. As far as I could tell, there were only two mishaps: one where some dipshiat nailed the throttle on his Challenger coming out of the parking lot and the police (which were running the event, dummy) punched his ticket instantly, and later a new Viper crapped itself by the side of the road. Meanwhile, the 1916 Cadillac motored past without incident. Yeah, modern cars are soooo reliable and old cars aren't. I took some driving videos with the GoPro mounted in the Limited so I'll post those later. Today not so when it is approaching 95. Everyone has had their cars out and being no car shows everyone stops to look at each others car and before long 5 or 6 start an impromptu car show. Folks just looking for a good reason to be back to normal. My town had one confirmed case 6 weeks ago and nobody has ever really followed any of those guidelines or what their calling it. Now antibody testing though proved it did come through back in January but folks really just thought it the yearly "crud". GoPro cameras are designed for rough environments and have really strong mounting systems. They're tiny, too, but take high-definition videos and decent sound. We stick them all over the cars to get driving footage, including under a Power Wagon to show the driveshafts turning and suspension articulating. You will see them stuck all over the cars in, say, Jay Leno's Garage videos. They're waterproof and shockproof and have pretty impressive digital image stabilization software, so that even when they mount them, say, on a mountain biker's helmet, you can still see what's going on. In a limousine, it doesn't matter, but when we stuck it on the front fender of that diesel Power Wagon, which vibrates like crazy, it was still totally stable. Fun technology. Buicknutty Posted May 6, 2020 Share Posted May 6, 2020 (edited) Sunday was a lovely day here in southwestern Ontario as well, and I had the top down on the Reatta for the first time this year. We drove it out a one of the few restaurants that are doing a breakfast take out, and sat in the sun and ate our meal. Very Lovely. Then later on I took the Electra out for its' first drive of the year as well. One or two days before I moved a few cars around, and took this shot of the '41 Roadmaster in the driveway. Just did a quick spin in it to warm it up. So I parked them (Electra and the Reatta) side by side for a quick shot. Great because with the last repair I discovered a vacuum leak that apparently I engineered years and YEARs ago. Apparently I missed tightening the vacuum line clamp at the power brake booster. Anyway, maybe I am overateting it but I felt like it really ran excellent today. Visited Skene Manor in Whitehall to take pictures of a Chapter Members Le Sabre for our chapter newsletter. Meanwhile I snuck in these two. Didn't stray too far away from the house. What I hear around here is that if you break down, the auto club will come fetch your car, but you can't ride with the tow truck driver because of COVID-19. Paul White Posted May 17, 2020 Share Posted May 17, 2020 Hi all, another beautiful sunny fall day beckoned me to take the '36 out for a run whilst the family were looking the other way. This afternoons destination was to a coastal town call The Entrance, a short 15 miles coastal drive from home. I passed a '64 Mustang and a couple of late '60s Impalas on the way. I forgot to take my camera so no photos today but I offer an aerial shot to give you all an idea of the drive, I passed over the bridge (left to right heading south) where large numbers of teenage boys were jumping in the water between people fishing (not much in the way of social distancing lately). I then followed the coast and followed the coastal road through the town. I was enjoying myself so much I didn't even think to stop to take in the view. Anyway, hope you are all safe out there.
