John Posted May 18, 2015 Share Posted May 18, 2015 I put over 500 miles on the 66 Skylark this past week. Took it down to Ocean City MD for their spring cruise week. This event draws everything from a few antiques and classics to jacked up trucks and ratrods, and is heavy on the muscle cars, both stock and modified. My sister really knows how to treat a brother: My other brother brought his 442 Then Sunday both my brothers,my nephew, and myself drove to Hackettstown NJ for their annual Memorial Day show, to join my 87 yr old Uncle with his model A pickup he restored. Can you believe in all this There was only 3 Buicks? Talk about the red headed step children!!! LOL.. any way after the show we had a nice party at our Aunts and Uncles condo and got a chance to see our cousins for the first time in a decade or so. She mingled with Ferraris and other foreign exotics, plus a handful of American Iron, and acquitted herself quite well. 65 cars were scattered on the park-like grounds of a nearby private residence, with a very pleasant, low-key crowd. Mostly 'Vettes and muscle cars, many of them modified. Lots of nice work was evident. My car attracted much more attention than I would ever have thought. One of the spectators told me that they don't see many bone stock, plain Jane, four door family sedans at shows (I guess they won't, at car shows sponsored by the local 'Vette club). Buicknutty Posted June 9, 2015 Share Posted June 9, 2015 I'm a bit behind, but I went to a couple of local cruise nights last week in the '41 McLaughlin Buick Roadmaster coupe (Canadian built), and I was able tp park beside a friend's '41 Buick Special (US built) 4 door. Also, there were a couple of rods there with nailheads, I got a couple of pictures of this one, running a 401, the other with what I think was a 425 nailhead was gone before I got any decent pictures. Then on Sunday we drove "Beulah" to church and then to mingle with the fall foliage. We finally have some color around here. John_Maine Posted June 14, 2015 Share Posted June 14, 2015 I started my '71 LeSabre last weekend after 7 months hibernation. Only took 15-20 seconds of cranking for it to turn over. Drove it out of the garage and let it run long enough to warm up. After a couple of minutes, I noticed what looked like smoke coming from under the hood by the wipers so shut it down. Didn't see anything, so started it back up. Noticed the AC clutch turning slowly even though the AC wasn't on. Turned the AC on and it started blowing with the clutch spinning. However, it looked like it was spinning unevenly if that makes sense. Anyway, I shut the AC off and the clutch stopped, but still moved slightly. Then I noticed black particles all over the engine compartment and right front fender, like ground rubber. It appears that the metal part behind the black part is broken which is chewing up the black part - sorry I don't know the names. The AC needs to be charged/repaired so I guess I can take off the belt and be all right. Until then, I don't dare to drive it. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Buicknutty Posted June 14, 2015 Share Posted June 14, 2015 (edited) Took the '41 Roadmaster Coupe out to an annual event at Parkwood, an estate built by the man that created GM of Canada, Sam McLaughlin, and is only a couple of miles from where my car was built in Oshawa, Ontario. The theme was WWII, and there were many people, women especially, dressed in period costume. The estate provided costumes for folks to wear and then wander around and have their pictures taken in and around the extensive grounds. There was a small group us, two '37 McLaughlin Buicks, one a Limo (90 series) the other 40 series, a US built '41 Special, and my '41 McLaughlin Buick, plus a '41 Chev done up as a period Army Staff car. It is a very neat place, and is registered historic building with the main building completed in 1917, which Sam lived in till his death in 1972. Worth a visit if you are ever up here. Buicknutty Posted June 14, 2015 Share Posted June 14, 2015 Derek; It is a reproduction of the grey Bedford Cord that was used as the original material. The flash from the camera I think has rendered it lighter than it really is, too. The original was a grey/blue, as the original colour was a medium blue, but since early in the restoration I decided to paint it another '41 colour, Royal Maroon, I felt that grey with maroon would be a more pleasing choice. According to info I got during research, a grey Bedford Cord would be correct on my '41. Due to the lack of documentation, I have not been able to determine what, if any, upholstery differences there were between the US and Canadian cars. I gave an expanation about how I got my seat material in a thread I started about my car a while ago, it should be here on the forum if you do a search for 1941 McLaughlin Buick Roadmaster Coupe.
