whtbaron
Check out this car crusher. Makes you wonder what kind of metal is in the teeth if it can eat engine blocks for breakfast....http://devour.com/video/car-grinder/

Bleach
Looks like that'll be the destiny for most of the cars manufactured these days.

auburnseeker
Looking at the paint inside the hopper and loading tray it's brand new. I want to see it work the same after it's been in service for 6 months.

Dave@Moon
Now we know what happened to Jimmy Hoffa.Junk cars have been ground up like that for decades. In the 1990s used to inspect a facility in Pittsburgh that used a very similar machine, but was somewhat larger. Noise regulations frequently require it be done in an enclosed space in the U.S. The scrap is later sorted magnetically and mechanically and sold. It has been known to have the "fluff" (shredded upholstery bits) used to illegally absorb hazardous liquid waste and then be (as usual) landfilled. I was involved in a major investigation where this was (allegedly ) happening in NYC and New Jersey with materials dumped and/or landfilled in PA. It was not fun. The characters involved may very well have been among Mr. Hoffa's "associates" at the time, so this could quite likely be an accurate statement. Restorer32
There is one of these operations locally. The owner will basically accept any metal stuffed in the trunk of a car (I hear). You should hear it pop when it bites into an old propane tank. About once a year they have a fire in the thing.
avgwarhawk
It is more so interesting how the shredded pieces are separated and recycled parts used again.
Dandy Dave
Had a neighbor that would pick up a junk car from time to time and take it to the shredder that was in the port of Albany NY. He hauled a car for one of his nephew's one time. They got there and had to open the trunk, Seems his nephew decided to add a few sizeable rocks for weight. They were asked not to come back after that. Dandy Dave!

Waldren
The local yard here in Fort Myers, Fl. has one. It is something else to see. Over $17 million. They say it is well worth it. Leroy
