choke cable

I'm pretty sure that car should have a Sossong electric auto choke unit on it not a choke cable. Broker-len had one for sale recently. There may be a hand throttle cable that connects to the bellcrank on the manifold.

"J"... It's a "Sisson Co." electric choke. Looks pretty much like this:

I THINK '38's were still using a "Throttle Cable" that connects to the carb linkage and is used to control the high idle on start-up of a cold engine, but I am not positive on that.

Yes you will have to scrap the manual choke cable. The auto choke mounts on the flat top of the rear portion of the manifold. If you look you should see two small holes about 2 1/2 in. apart on the flat area near the 2 bosses for the throttle bracket. A small rod connects from the arm on the choke to the choke butterfly arm on the carb. The hand throttle cable mounts to the throttle cable bracket and fastens to an arm on the bracket, There's a steel rod that goes from the other arm to the thottle plate arm. I think I may have a photo. Jim
