Guest Magoo
Not everyone's cup of tea, but if you are into the custom car-building scene, the Detroit Autorama took place this weekend. Photo gallery of the Great 8 finalists for the Ridler Award, America's top prize for hot rod builders:http://www.macsmotorcitygarage.com/2014/03/07/great-8-chosen-at-the-2014-detroit-autorama/Feature story about the winner, JF Launier's '64 Buick Riviera. I am curious to learn what you folks think about it. Beltfed
It was my "cup of tea" but the Autorama has broken it's main mast and is adrift. This year a '64 Buick and last year a Rambler. They have lost their way from the true spirit of Hot rods. Sorry, I'm stuck in the 30's and 40's and loving it.
Aaron65
The factory '64 Riv was one of the best looking cars ever made. While this is interesting, I'd rather have a stock Riv. This guy spent a ton of money to have a car that doesn't look better than factory (IMO).
alsancle
When did the big-a** wheels become de rigueur? Blah! I like traditional hot rods (made from cars stamped in the hundreds of thousands) but not these.
West Peterson
I think there are some interesting modified features on the Riv, but the wheels and the color blind you from them. I like the rear-end treatment, but it's hard to appreciate because of the color.

I think if you parked the two in a parking lot side by side and this one was a normal color then as many people would take the stock Riviera if you gave them a choice. I started out with traditional hot rods (40's-50's styles) and even though I still have them and can appreciate a different one I haven't seen. I don't care for most of the new stuff people are building. The more I age (I'm not that old) The more stock I like them. I'd take a survivor over this any day.
