MrEarl Posted February 13, 2014 Share Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) The vacuum pump that this goes on was used to provide air to the power brake booster in case the engine cut off and failed to provide air from the intake manifold. In '54 it was mounted on the drivers side inner fender well. I am thinking this vac pump came out late in '53 and was standard in '54 after so many '53's were involved in brake related accidents due to loss of air when the engine cut off. I seem to remember something about Ralph Nader being involved. So Steve, your 53 may not even have one on it. If not see if Bob has a complete pump with motor.
