Postwar Chrysler flathead oil drain plug gasket

Recommended Posts

The last time I changed my oil I noticed the gasket to the oil drain plug in my '48 Chrysler flathead strait six looked a bit worn. I am guessing this a generic size that I can get at an auto parts store? If so, what size/ type should I find?

Good for you, drain plug gaskets should be replaced every so often, about every 4 or 5 oil changes. But nobody does, they let them wear out then over tighten the plug to stop drips and too often strip the threads.

You are right, they are a generic gasket. There are only 3 or 4 sizes in common use. Measure the diameter of the threaded part of the plug or take the old gasket to the store. They probably don't have a listing for one that old.
