"Cornbinder" bus with International High Wheeler???

Recommended Posts

Nine and a half years ago I posed this question. I got some interesting comments but not the one I wanted with a copy of the article. I just thought I would try again. By the way HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you.

Many years ago 60's I think, I read an article in an automotive magazine about a man with a converted school bus. It was an International. The inside had some grills from an old bank and was set up as a motor home. The rear had a raised roof and the floor could be lowered to act as a ramp. Parked in this rear portion was his High Wheeler. Does anyone know who had/has this vehicle. Does anyone have a copy of the article. I was looking to do a similar thing and I thought I might eliminate some of the pitfalls if I could get more details about the original one.

I believe it was in the south east. It was the major article in a magazine. The man had bought an old IHC school bus and converted it into a motor home in the front with a space in the back for his IHC "Highwheeler". A second bus provided parts to make the back part of the roof like "sceinecruiser".

Very much like that only the upper portion ended flush with the back of the bus. The entire back from right behind the side windows pivoted up and at the same time the floor behind the differential tilted down to make a ramp so that the High Wheeler could drive right up, be tied down and then the floor (ramp) went back up into place as the back was lowered.

I remember seeing the article but do not know where. Will try to find it.

Thank you for remembering it.  I was begining to think it was a dream.  I had the whole magazine but In moving half way across the continent and then 5 times in 35 years several things seem to be missing.

Thanks I enjoyed that.  The one I was looking for was like the fourth picture only the floor behind the axle tipped down  so that it and the back of the body made a complete ramp.
