JAN, your reprint of the 1957 book is a real treasure. I have a rather tired original copy of this book and, like the one you're also offering for sale, mine is missing pages 25 and 26, including the exterior paint chips. I suspect that this oversized fold-out sheet was plucked from these books and sold for a couple of easy dollars at some long-ago swap meet.

Could I purchase a scanned image file of just these pages? It wouldn't look original (not yellowed enough!) but it would complete what is my favourite piece of literature for my old Buick.

I replied to the seller within several hours for info and pictures. I wanted to buy the 58 book and sent on offer and then sent another private message. I have not heard back. I am a bit confused, is seller waiting for higher offers to respond or using this as an auction?

Having a domain name and a gmail address might raise a red flag. And no postal address was provided.

Searching "Whois" on the domain came up with: http://whois.domaintools.com/hometownbuick.com . And they have 25 other sites based mostly on Buick years.

The prices listed are reasonable. And putting up 3000 pictures for inventory was a lot of work. Sure are a lot of red flags.

Try www.14943buick.com or 1946 and see where they send you.

This seller is my good friend Jan Olof Hansen in Germany. His former user name was El Diablo. He is the administrator of 1954buick.com and has been collecting 50's Buick memorabilia for quite a few years. He has been building a new site covering all years of 50's Buicks called Hometown Buick. He apparently has decided to sell some of his "overstock".

As there are several hours time difference, it may take time for him to respond.

MR. EARL, thanks for explaining Jan's situation. He's certainly a credible Buick literature collector, straddling the line between enthusiast and dealer. I wouldn't hesitate to deal with him, bearing in mind that there are minor complications of trading overseas.

Well, it's 10:17am here. Germany is a few hours ahead of the US.

Sorry for not stating prices here. The originals are rare and I have time. Plus, several people have raised Prices on eBay. The bottom line for originals is 700 USD each. The reprints are much cheaper. I've done them for a friend here in Germany. But costs for just one copy are sky high. Thats why I've made 10 of each. Production costs were 33 Euro (about 46 USD). For this amount I got an excellent print on photographic paper plus a thicker cover plus a professional binding. Because of PayPal fees the selling price is 59 USD each. I'm definitely not a dealer, but a man with a big Buick wish list and little money. I need to sell stuff that I have more than once.

Rob, I can send you a more matching copy of the foldout (even with a yellowed page). All I'd need is your address. You can have it for free.

I do have a wide domain portfolio. It's so much fun running www.1954buick.com and getting in touch with other Buick owners and enthusiasts that at some point I've decided to make more. :)

It is good to see you surface here. That is a lot of work that went into the website and all those pictures. There were some red flags and using the "Whois" for domain name search can be a money saver

I saw the default link to 1954 Buick and wondered about the Earl connection. The 1943 Buick domain got me, too.

Somewhere in my piles of stuff are a few of the reprints of Smith Motor Compressor Manuals UI did in the 1990's. Reprints are a labor of love for sure. It is good the confusion is cleared up. What is your Ebay user name?

I always want to match the originals as acurate as possible. See this comparison: http://www.buick-59.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=6547&start=30#p64324

The 55 fabric book consists of samples only - that makes it impossible to produce a reprint like the others (1956, 57, etc.). But I could create a new book with all the information. I put that on my to do list for 2015. :)

The originals have a strong metal binding like office folders (see attached pictures). These folders are much more expensive to label (means: to have a printed front/cover and back). Costs were twice as high or even higher. And it weighs more, which leads to higher shipping costs. A "Wire O-Binding" (with the little wired circles) is the poorest quality way to bind a book. Most Buick books like shop manuals, product school manuals, parts books, factory books, etc. of the day weren't using the spiral bound either. Thats why I've chosen the professional glue binding. Its durable, looking nicely and rather cheap.
