Guest lewfilman
Does anyone know the GM parts needed to do a junkyard part ,front disc brake conversion on a 1965 Riv? I've seen the new stamped steel plates that use Caddy parts,(single piston caliper), but just the plates are almost $200.I know there must be a disc brake GM front end with the correct spindles, calipers, and rotors to clear the wheel setback of the 65 Riv 15x6 wheels. Anyone know the secret combination? Thanks,
RockinRiviDad
I can't help cuz I bought a kit which incorporates the same "$200 plate" (Scarbird) concept. Hope someone can answer your question. But how much money do u think you'll save after tracking down all your junkyard parts for your swap? It might be just as much money as the plate with all brand new parts. I'm interested. I think I got a great deal on my kit & thats why I bought it…$600 everything except a dual M/C & booster. Otherwise I would've went the Scarbird plate route.…Regards,David
Guest Gseago
Try here Jamco. They're a lot more expensive than the Scarbird plates but then again the have just about (master cylinder is sold separate) you'll need.
RivNut
For my '64, I bought the Scarebird adapters and found a '76 Riviera in a salvage yard that was factory equipped with disk/drum brakes. From the '76, I bought the rotors, calipers with good pads, lines, distribution block, master cylinder, and booster for $100. All I had to purchase was new brake hoses, and on a 50 year old car, I'd recommend doing that anyway. The thing I really like about this is that every part in the system is factory engineered to work together.
