72gs455
Would you recommend this for a 322 cam bearing removal/installation? I think it is adjustable to the 1.565/1.686 range.Or would you only have a pro do it?http://www.summitracing.com/parts/lil-18000/overview/The same one is available on Amazon even less money... old-tank
Have a good machine shop do it for you. But be sure to check that the front bearing is installed correctly so that the rockers will both get oil....maybe even mark the bearing and block for correct orientation. Another problem with (at least the small nailheads) is that after installation of the the cam bearings, in most cases the cam will not fit. The service manual says it needs to be 'align honed' to size, but most shops are not set up to do that since the cam bearings are different sizes. They will usually cut diagonal groove in the journals of the old cam and use that to ream the new bearings...a crude but effective technique. I try to get the machine shop to buy the parts they will install, that way when they screw up, they pay for the parts rather than blaming 'your parts'.Willie

Bhigdog
What Willie says. Cam bearings often need to be line bored or reamed to size after installation. Not a job for the do it yourselfer....Bob
