Hello,

I was hoping to get some info on my 1958 Studebaker Golden Hawk. It has the McCulloch supercharger.

First question : how many of these cars were produced (supercharged) in '58 ?

Second question : how much is this car worth ?

Its in ruff shape. There is rust in the undercarriage. There is pitting on the chrome and the paint is chipped in several places. It has red paint under the gold coat, visible in several areas. It is currently not running. The trunk damage is the worst of it. While being transported to its current home on the west coast the trunk apparently popped up and broke the cowl(?). Trunk is also dented. Other than that stuff, she's a real beauty... :)

Seriously, I know this car is rare and special to a lot of people. It was to my dad. It was running perfectly when my Dad passed away in 2006. It has been sitting in the garage since that time. Im looking to get some money to help my mom who is having a hard time financially. Im interested mostly in getting info from this forum so I can make some educated decisions but if anyone out there want to make an offer Im all ears. Thanks for your time !

I hate to sound cruel but anybody who's interested isn't going to tell you it's worth a lot of money. You can get a price guide and try to figure it out on your own or look at comparable offerings and set a price. Just remember that most of the prices you see rarely find a buyer, especially in free advertising.

Dave,

not cruel at all... i appreciate any feedback. I'm thinking it would be someone with knowledge of these cars who isn't interested who could tell me what they would pay for this car.

A rare car, 878 built: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studebaker_Golden_Hawk

A ratty driver is worth maybe $10-12K. Your car is worth some fraction of that. If you could get it running, you'll do much better, and being on the west coast helps, too. Best bet is to put it on eBay with a reserve for the minimum you'd accept and see what action you get.

Good luck!

Suchan,

Thanks VERY much. This is exactly the kind of info I was hoping for.

Most of us can figure out how to flip the photos over, but we can't improve the quality of them. Borrow a better camera and take more, and better, photos, right-side up. Beautiful car, too bad about the transport damage. Ask around and find an honest mechanic that knows old cars, ask what it'll cost to get it running. Unless you're going to sell it for parts, buyers will want to see it move.

Incase you wanted to see the car upside down ....... ta daaa

My apologies for dissing your camera. I fiddled with the pics a bit and was able to fix the resolution issues I was experiencing, but upside down is still not good. Shots of the interior would be especially welcome.

Pictures look better than your description. Compared to Studes in the rustbelt , that's in good shape.

Probably needs fuel system cleaned and a tuneup--$200-300. Get some estimates, also have the brakes inspected.

Lot easier to sell a car you can drive onto the trailer , may double the value of a non-running car.

I'm pretty sure I can get it running... My neighbor knows these old cars quite well, also my brother will help and he worked on this car with my father years ago... here are more pics....

Where did the car originally come from or spend most of it's time?

The damage behind the rear window doesn't look good. Too bad the damage wasn't just to the trunk lid.

My dad bought the car in illinois around 1998.
