palbuick
I just found this hood ornament in an old box
of stuff I haven't opened in the last 10 years. I believe that it is a Packard Hood ornament of the 30's or 40's. There is quite a bit of pitting all over, but not real deep pitts, I havent found any cracks or broken areas. Appreciate any help identifying and establishing a value.
infopop Homepage
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
[ 07-10-2001: Message edited by: palbuick ]
Guest BillP
Someone here will be able to identify that. I do remember from the occasional lazy days of my misspent youth poring through the latest JC whitney catalog. In it was a selection of hood ornaments including horses, longhorn steers, naked ladies, and a semi-reasonable facsimile of the Packard swan, perhaps now referred to as the cormorant. Yours could be either the real thing or or of these artful duplicates.
packard super
If your Cormant is not on the base. mounting. Look at the bottom if it is solid casting it is repo. The orginial will be hollow with a removable wedge to hold the wings on. If it is pitted and needs replating its not worh much.BUBBA
palbuick
Bubba, thanks for information. It is a hollow casting, but the wings are not removable. cast is all one piece. The piece is quite pitted, but these are very small and not deep pitts. Anyone interested can make me an offer, and don't be surprised if I say OK.
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
