My car has a resistor on firewall for ignition points but service Manuel says car has resistance wire in harness .Car has 9 volts when cranking starter but 12 volts to coil .From what little I know I should have 12volts cranking 9volts to coil.Any help would be appreciated

The ballast resistor is in the coil circuit when the car is running (after you release the key from the start position to the run position). The resistor is bypassed when you are starting the car to give the coil full battery voltage (12 volts in your case). I think someone has switched the wires.

Thank you for diagram but I'm afraid over the years past owners were not concerned with color codes.I've pulled out the last three hairs I had. Tomorrow is a new day .Thanks again for your help
