Hi, I am about to change the Oil on a 1928 Stutz Bb Blackhawk vertical cylinder engine. The Sump is an aluminium finned casting. I cannot find a drain plug on the bottom of the sump anywhere. Does anyone know where the oil drain is on these engines please?

Not sure about Stutz, but a lot of cars from that era used petcocks on the side of the oil pan for both oil drain and level checking, one mounted high and one mounted low usually at the back. My 28 Pierce had those with t-handles attached that were above the splash pan.

Thank you. The photo show it well. On my sump where the plug is on your engine there is just a threaded bolt which made me unsure. Appreciated. PS the photo of your engine work looks fantastic. Thanks Peter
