DGPoff
There really is no DORT club. I once owned a 1915 that is now in the Nethercutt Museum. I know quite a bit about the car and company if you have any questions.
Guest
check with a Durant club. Dallas Dort and Billy Durant were buddies during that time and perhaps the cars share some components and assembly.
Guest
There's a '22 Dort 9 window sedan in my neighborhood that's been for sale for awhile, nice looking car with a Rolls-Royce type radiator, ratty leather interior, needs a full resto though, and once you're done what've you got? just a car never worth more than 7 or 8 grand if you're lucky. Clincher
Back in the sunny long ago of the nineteen-fifties I owned a Dort. I tried to drive it for while, but it didn't take long to decide that it was a cheap and nasty piece of work. I traded it for two cast cement garden gnomes, a wrought iron garden bench and a bird bath, and thought I'd got the better of the deal.
Guest
In defense of the aforementioned forlorn Dort let me say that it is actually a very goodlooking car with the distinctive radiator shell and a very large and tall expanse of glass since the owner explained to me that it is basically a touring car body {i.e low beltline} with a sedan greenhouse attached.
The car is basically original with only a '50's repaint in metallic? blue.
I know it's reliable since it was driven all over the east coast by the fellow
but underpowered with a 30hp Lycoming 4 so 40 is about tops.
I actually thought about buying it when I was younger and there seemed to be more hours in a day but decided an open car would be more viable. Mike Cullen
My Dad owned one in the 30's, around 1939 he and a friend were out chasing women, they hit a pothole hard and broke a front spindle. That car sat in a field next to where it broke in upstate NY (Brewerton/ West Monroe area) until the mid 70's! It may still be there if somebody didn't finally snatch it up or junk it. Guest jroyse
I also have a 1918 Dort. The club I like best is the Gray Dort club out of Canada. They have a great news letter published quarterly. Dues are $22.95 per year. Contact:Stan UherBox 2068Blenheim, Ontario, CanadaI first joined the Durant - Star club but over a 2 year period I did not one article on Dort auto's. The Gray Dort club is a great one. Stan Uher restores all cars but drives a 1915 Gray Dort.Hope this helpsJim jroyse06@comcast.net
Durant Mike
Hello all, the Durant Motors Automobile Club covers the Dort make since J.Dallas Dort and William C. "Billy" Durant were partners earlier in their career in the buggy manufacturing business in Flint. Not only were they partners but good friends. J. Dallas Dort died in the early 20's while Billy Durant was running his own car company Durant Motors. In Flint near their original buggy factory site is a statue of both Billy Durant and J. Dallas Dort together. There are several members in the DMAC that have Dort's and at some of our meets there have been several show up. If there was not an article in the excellent club magazine on Dort's it's because no one ever submitted one. The club magazine is published quarterly and gets it's articles from members who submit them. The Editor is a volunteer position and only puts together articles written by others into the quarterly magazine. There has been articles on Dort's in the magazine in the past, but lack of submission from Dort owners could be the problem. The Gray-Dort club is a Canadian club that mostly caters to the Gray-Dort that was manufactured in Canada. We've had meets in Canada where they have joined us and they are a great bunch of people. Jroyse is right that Stan Uher is a great guy and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend you joining the DMAC. They are a great bunch of people and very friendly car club. Dan Marx
This a '17 Eagle. I recently looked at this Dort for parts. I would love to have the radiator emblem and the lights. They were off the car when it burned. The lights are gorgeous. 1917 DORT ANTIQUE, Price $3,000.00, Gray Court (near Greenville), SC, Automatic, Not Available, Classic / Antique
