I recently discovered a new compartment in my trunk.

After years of owning a 41 Buick model 56 business coupe I recently discovered a compartment in the trunk. I am not sure if it was "Stock" or added on somewhere along the way. I will attempt to attach some pictures and would appreciate any and all feedback on the subject. It looks like something the factory may have done but one is never sure. I would also be interested in knowing if there are many of these business coupes out there.

Our 39 coupe has one similar.

My '39 Special Business Coupe also has the compartment. The trunk has never been restored, so I am pretty sure it is original. I keep jumper cables, jack, tow strap, air pump and other "essentials" in there.

Is that where the original jack and tools were stowed by the factory ?

That is my guess since there was no real accommodation under the spare.

Just some dust, dirt and a few upholstery tacks.

I believe so. The reason I say that is that there is no civilized way to store that stuff otherwise. In the regular coupes with the rear seat the jack and accessories are stored under the rear seat cushion.

Discovered that compartment also in my 1940 Buick Coupe, took like three garbage bags full of rat phoe and seat stuff out of there recently ;-)

Hi. Just a comment to FLYER15015 - As it appears you are dressed as Bonnie & Clyde in the photo, you ought to get a few of those bullet hole decals added for effect. Great looking car. Jimmie
