Hi all,

I'm guessing most of you will have seen the news from Pebble Beach - a Ferrari 275 NART Spyder smashed the record for the most expensive road car and most expensive Ferrari at auction:

Ferrari 275 NART Spyder sets auction record at $27.5m in Monterey

What do we all think of the sale? Is that too much to pay, is it worth it?

Also We have most of the top results from the Monterey auctions over the weekend in our Classic Cars news section. Personally, I'd have the Bugatti Type 57SC Atalante that sold for $8.7m at Gooding and Company, must more stylish in my opinion!

Cheers,

Joe

Does the buyer get to write it off as a charitable donation? I would think that since he got a car for his money, I don't think he does and there's no tax advantage for him regardless of where the money is going.

I do have to give the sellers' family big kudos for stepping up and making such a wonderful gesture. The story attached to this particular car suggests that they are familiar with giving back to the community, something that should be applauded, particularly at this level.
