Correct AC belt for '69 Riviera

Hi guys,

the restoration of my '69 Riviera is continuing and one of the next projects is the AC. The belt is missing and somehow I cannot find any information on the correct belt in the workshop manual (did I overlook it?).

So for sure, this is an easy question for you - what is the correct belt size for my stock AC? Maybe someone even knows the part number. I will be in the states in early October and would like to add the belt to my growing "Buick-Shopping-List".

Thanks a lot and best regards from Germany,

Alexander

P.S. I am still looking for a woodgrain dash kit. Unfortunately I cannot get hold of Greg Setter and so far all attempts to reproduce the parts failed miserably...

Thanks Bob - the confusing thing is that the different manufacturers offer AC belts in different sizes:

63 1/8"

64 1/2"

64 5/8"

65 5/8"

Maybe I am overcomplicating this - but a price-range from $1.71 to $13.91 implies that there have to be differences.

I think I will let my lucky dice decide on which belt size to buy.

Regards,

Alexander

Alex,

The reason why there are different sizes is due to the two different sizes on the A/C pulley, if you noticed they list the size of the pulley, one is for the standard Riv and the other is for the GS option. You did not state if yours is a GS or standard. I own a 71GS and it has the larger diameter A/C pulley. Measure the diameter of your pulley and then you will know which one to get.

re your woodgrain dash kit--I looked but could not find a supplier. I ordered 3M vinyl woodgrain from the internet (had the dash out already) and removed & replaced the woodgrain (carefully matching grain). looked great but no lettering. took my old pieces with lettering to a local sign shop and asked them to make the lettering. (the vinyl is so small "weeding" is a problem but can be done). installed it myself (will do a better job next time) not Concours but looks a lot better than the old vinyl. yes, the dash lights behind the A/C control will never be correct but i'm the only one that knows --- used Eastwood's Chrome paint on the Chrome part of the dash-- not exactly chrome but still looks great!

My daughter has a program on her computer that allows her to make custom graphic letters. I gave her two pictures; one of a rare bicycle headset and one of a bicycle chain guard. She downloaded them and made reproductions for me. The chain guard decal is perfect. The head badge should be etched metal but you can't tell it's not unless you get within 6" of it.

They're not water slide decals but cut out letters that have an adhesive backing. It takes a special printer to "print." It actually cuts out the decal on special paper rather than printing it. If you have a picture, it can be reproduced. Or if you know the size and the font, it can be printed from text. Talk with someone from the younger generation about their capabilities with their toys of choice.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Bob,

RockAuto has an auto-translate function which translates "pulley" into the German word for "drawer" when you visit the website from a German IP. After your explanation, the different sizes make sense. Thanks again for the tip.

Ed and link,

I had the woodgrain with the lettering reproduced at a local lettering shop - unfortunately the result was not satisfying at all. So I was hoping to find one of the "legendary" kits made by Greg Setter. I will give it another try with another shop.

Regards,

Alexander
