Guest AllisonY
I was at the out today and locked my 1989 Buick Reatta in a large parking lot, I'm assuming that someone tripped the anti-theft system. When I returned to my car the security light in the dash was blinking as well as the light indicating the parking lights being on. When attempting to start my car the radio and ac turn on but nothing else. Does anyone know how to bypass the anti-theft system?Things I've tried:Disabling alarm system via "open door unlock from the outside" method stated in the owners manual.Putting the key in the "accessory" position then turning they key to the "run" position, waiting 10 minutes repeated 3XSame as above except the second time I took the key out of the ignition between each tryJumping the car (in a last ditch effort)Any ideas? I've completely drawn a blank. Thank you.

harry yarnell
I didn't think the alarm on a '89 disabled the starter as does vats.
Nittany
If you haven't already done so, I suggest you disconnect the battery for a minute. This should allow the alarm system to reset.
Guest AllisonY
Well I just got home in my REATTA, first of all I would like to sincerely thank everyone that replied to my bat signal. I went back to my car today and my dad met me there, I live in Texas so the sweat as instantly pouring off of both of us. We checked all the fuses and all seemed to be fine there. We could both here the power going from the ignition to the fuse box then go dead at the starter. Right as we resloved that the starter needed replacing I checked this forum one more time and read Nittany's suggestion. So right before we were going to call a tow truck we disconnected the battery and presto it started right up!So thanks again everyone, it's a surprisingly humbling experience to get such great help from people that have no motivation to help me besides loving Reattas and being genuinely caring. You've saved me the cost of a tow truck, a new starter, and the pain in the ass it would be to get to work and back in that time span.
